The Legend Of Bloody Mary
You know the legend: say “Bloody Mary” in a mirror at midnight, and the child murderer will come through the mirror to get you. Notice I didn’t state a number of times you had to say her name. That varies from story to story, as does the origin of Bloody Mary.
Some say that Bloody Mary was a child murderer, while others say it’s none other than Queen Mary the First herself. In a way, the origins of the story are irrelevant. What is true, for certain, is the fact that although many people of all ages joke about this so called phenomenon, much fewer people have actually confronted a mirror at midnight to see if there is any truth in the spooky stories…
And for good reason.
All across the world – and naturally, the internet – there are countless tales which tell of people who dared to do this, with terrible consequences. Sometimes it is said that the victim ends up in a pool of their own blood, and sometimes it is said that they become mute from the frightful thing they have just witnessed. Other web-sites show, in detailed colour graphics , just what Mary looks like, while yet more talk about how the door locked inexplicably – usually when the door has no obvious way of locking…Whatever the truth behind the legend, this author does not encourage messing with things we don’t understand. Do so at your peril. It may be funny to begin with, but if things go wrong, fun might be the last thing on your mind for a long time to come.
