Some Things are Not Responsible For China’s Rise

Global policy analysts really love to explain just how much they know about China’s rise. But it’s not that hard to make wild predictions about what’s responsible for China’s crazy rise to the top, because so few people have enough experience to truly understand the socio-political context in which China exists. Take these examples of some things that are (satirically) responsible for China’s rise in order to really understand how wrong so many analysts are.

One things that’s responsible for China’s rise is the global trade in dog meat. Of course, people know that some people eat dog meat in China, and almost nowhere else in the world. This monopoly of the production and trade of dog meat has given China a unique market advantage, and helped greatly improve their GDP by neither exporting nor importing any of the products. By trading with oneself it keeps the trade balance equal.

Another thing responsible for China’s rise is the great wall. The Great Wall of China acts as a magnet to foreign investment because tourism in China is rising so much. Tourism is predicted to overtake the manufacturing sector in China before the century’s end, so some long terms investors — not on the advice of Galvan Research — are getting ready for a big payoff in a century or so.

Of course, none of this is true, but it shows that how simple it can be to call oneself an analyst, even when working from absurd premises. Making it any less absurd doesn’t make it any less true.
